Housing

Applying for a unit, getting a repair done, and how the waitlist works at Aspen Ridge First Nation.

No heat, no water, a sewer backup or anything unsafe? Do not use a form — call the housing office now: 780-555-0100

How housing is allocated

Applications are scored under the Aspen Ridge Housing Policy, approved by Council. Points are given for time on the waitlist, household size relative to the unit, health and safety need, whether an applicant is currently homeless or overcrowded, and Elder status. Council reviews the list quarterly; the housing committee makes the allocation.

You do not lose your place by asking questions. If your circumstances change — a new baby, a health condition, leaving an unsafe home — tell the housing office, because it changes your score.

Housing Allocation Policy

Adopted by Band Council Resolution BCR-2024-018. Reviewed annually by the Housing Committee.

Purpose

To allocate Nation-owned housing units fairly, transparently and according to need.

Who may apply

  • Registered members of Aspen Ridge First Nation, 18 years or older
  • Members returning to the community after living off reserve
  • Non-member spouses may be listed on an application but not hold the tenancy alone

Points system

| Factor | Points |

|---|---|

| Overcrowding (per person over the National Occupancy Standard) | 5 each |

| Elder (65+) or person with a disability in the household | 10 |

| Currently homeless or in unsafe housing | 15 |

| Time on waitlist (per year) | 3 |

| Employment or training in the community | 5 |

Ties are broken by date of application. The Housing Committee may award an emergency placement outside the points order; the reason is recorded in the minutes.

Process

  1. Application received and acknowledged within 5 business days (Housing → Applications & waitlist).
  2. Points scored by the Housing Coordinator and confirmed by a second staff member.
  3. Waitlist published to members by household reference number, not by name.
  4. Offer made in writing; applicant has 10 business days to accept.
  5. Tenancy agreement signed; unit inspection completed with photos attached to the unit record.

Appeals

An applicant may appeal a scoring decision in writing to the Band Manager within 30 days. The Housing Committee hears appeals at its next meeting.

Apply for a unit

The office scores applications under the housing policy and keeps the waitlist. You get a reference number — keep it, it is how you check where you are.

Only the office sees this. Points are scored by housing staff under the Nation's housing policy; you may be asked for more information.
