Water advisory lifted for the north subdivision

The precautionary boil water advisory issued for houses 100 to 148 on 14 March has been lifted. Two consecutive clear samples were returned from the lab on Friday.

Run each tap for five minutes before drinking, and flush the fridge line and the ice maker. Public Works will replace filters at no charge for anyone who asks — call 780-555-0180.

Chief Dana Whitecloud was returned for a second term, and eight Councillors were elected. The electoral officer's report and the poll-by-poll count are posted in Documents.

The oath of office and the first regular meeting of the new Council will be held at the Community Hall.

Housing allocation: five homes this fall

The housing committee has allocated five newly renovated units on Willow Road. Everyone on the list has been called; letters follow by mail.

If you did not receive one and think you should have, call the housing office. Your place is not affected by asking.

Aspen Ridge signs consultation protocol with two proponents

Council has signed consultation protocols covering the transmission corridor and the gravel operation east of the river. Both agreements require early notice, funded participation for our own technical review, and a role for the Elders' committee on any work near the burial grounds.

Nurse practitioner clinic moves to three days

From October the nurse practitioner clinic runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Same-day spots are held each morning; call the Health Centre at 780-555-0130 at 8:30 am.

Language nest opens at Little Bears

The Cree language nest opens at Little Bears Head Start with two fluent speakers and eight children. Elder Sharon Nipisihkopahk opened the room with a pipe ceremony.

The programme grows to sixteen children in January. Registration is at the Education office.

Road grading and dust control schedule

Grading starts on the west loop, then Willow, then the school road. Dust control is applied within two days of grading on each stretch. Expect delays and please do not pass the grader.

The general assembly is at the Community Hall, doors at 4:30 pm, supper at 5. Audited financial statements, the year's report from each department, and questions to Council.

Transportation from the Elders' Lodge is arranged; call reception to reserve a seat.

Fall harvest camp: two weeks at the ceremonial grounds

Moose and elk processing, dry meat, hide tanning and the young hunters' programme. Elders lead each morning. Everyone eats, whether you can help or not.

Trades apprenticeship: eight seats funded

The Nation has funded eight apprenticeship seats through the corporate arm — carpentry, electrical and heavy equipment. Members are given first consideration. Applications are at the Employment office and close at the end of the month.

The noon meal programme is back in the main dining room. Thank you to everyone who ate in the gathering room for six weeks without complaining too loudly.

Ice is in. Youth ice is free every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 pm. Adult ice, shinny and team bookings go through the arena office.

If a child has been born, or someone has passed, or you have moved, please come to the membership clerk. Registration takes weeks longer if the paperwork starts late, and it affects funding for the school and for health benefits.

The fire ban is lifted across the reserve. Permits are still required for anything larger than a cooking fire and are issued at the band office.

The community freezer at the hall is stocked with moose, fish and berries from the harvest camp. Anyone can take what they need. No form, no questions.

A welding shop and a logistics firm have signed at the business park, bringing sixteen jobs, eleven of them held by members. The Nation's corporate arm now employs over a thousand people across all operations.

Work begins on the lift station serving the south subdivision. Expect noise during the day and no service interruption. The contractor is on site for six weeks.
